George Thornton must be a great fan of Asteroids as he has not created one, but two remakes of Asteroids. This is the first of the two and features excellent graphics and fantastic gameplay.

The concept of the game is well known and fun to play, this remakes adds to it by bringing it to a much higher level. Be sure to check out the sequel as well.

Donkey Kong Jr.

Another great remake by Crozza Remakes. Donkey Kong Jr. is a platformer that many of us will remember playing. Not only was this retro game released as arcade game and 8bit homecomputer and consoles, it was also released as handlheld game. The game formula was and -is still- great!

This free Windows remake of the Nintendo classic from 1982 preserves the gameplay just excellent. The graphics are polished, yes, but it;#39;s still as great as the retro orginal.;nbsp;Just download and enjoy!

Excellent Asteroids remake called Debris. This remake is obviously polished and it shines bright. The gameplay is ofcourse the same as the original classic by Atari from 1979.

Old games like Asteroids have been remade many times. However this remake is about the most graphically enhanced I encountered. Ofcourse this retro game is available for free for Windows PC. Download and enjoy!

Apidya

Side way scrolling shooter feature spaceships;nbsp;most of the time. However in Apidya you are controlling a wasp. Much like the beemovie you are experiencing this game in a wasp sized world. So everything around you is large: giant corn, giant flowers and giant insects. The insects are often the enemy too.

This excellent Amiga shooter was released first ;nbsp;in 1992. It has been remade for Windows PC. Download and enjoy this game!

R-Type

R-Type wasn;#39;t the first sideway shooter, but it sure was a great one. It set a standard in its time and after the release of R-Type, shooters were never the same as before. This remake for Windows PC is just excellent. Graphics are great, gameplay is awesome. If you have enjoyed R-Type (on whatever computer you owned back then) you should check out this retro remake. It;#39;s quite a big download (well, as far as remakes go), but it;#39;s worth it! Enjoy this classic!

Sonic

Sonic introduced mega fast side scrolling, looping, sliding and jumping platform action. The game is famous because of this unique gameplay. And SEGA has turned the concept inside out for maximum profit ofcourse, resulting in many spinoffs, merchandise and what not. But Sonic ;#39;The Hedgehog;#39; is the game it started with. Not so much of a classic for those who think of retro as in eighties games, but still, this is a historical title.

Open Sonic (which this is), is a GREAT version of Sonic for Windows PC. It;#39;s free for download, so what are you waiting for? Get this SEGA retro classic and start collecting those rings!

Pooyan

Konami;#39;s Pooyan was actually not developed by Konami itself, which happened more back then. However, the game concept is real Konami material as it is simply brilliant. You may remember having played this games hours and hours on the arcade or maybe you were lucky enough to have enjoyed this retro game on your 8bit computer.

This Windows PC Pooyan remake is free, has excellent graphics, runs very smooth and has awesome gameplay. It features all the game concepts the original version had. So be sure to download this classic and enjoy Pooyan on your Windows PC.

Contra

Contra, a.k.a. Gryzor in Europe, is a well known side scrolling shooter by Konami. It has much similarities with an earlier Konami title: Green Beret. However Contra has been much more succesful and sequels of it have released on 16bit platforms as well.

In this fan remake you are able to play three levels of Contra. Its gameplay is about the same as the 16bit versions, just like the music and graphics. It;#39;s not the 8bit remake, so if you;#39;r looking for the MSX or ZX Spectrum version, you may want to look further. However this game is an excellent free remake for Windows PC. Venture

Ah, the good old Venture from the *vision machines. If you owned one, you;#39;ll know this game. Just like the original, you;#39;ll have to fight your way through the dungeons to find treasurs. This remake has the same retro style graphics and it adds to the classic gameplay!

Scorpion,;nbsp; the remaker, has added new levels, enemies and more difficulty to this Windows PC remake of Venture. It;#39;s fair enough considering, you;#39;re almost 30 years older since you;#39;ve last played it on your *vision machine! :)
